Strengths / Skills

  • 2003 Benchart partnership with Ruth Gibson started to deliver an Arts Regeneration Project in  Cross Houses, Shrewsbury. This involved project development and funding applications to Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and Arts Council England.  
  • 2004 SABC Arts Regeneration Grant awarded to Benchart for Cross Houses Project.
  • 2005 ACE Grant awarded for enlarged Cross Houses Project.
  • 2006 Benchart Arts Regeneration Project in Cross Houses underway with opening of the new Cross Houses Community Centre. Joint project manager with Ruth Gibson. First bus/youth shelter built and commissioned bench installed, along with numerous community workshops and an open weekend.
  • Since 2000 I have served on the local Berrington Parish Council, latterly as deputy chairman.
  •  I have been involved with Community Education for 20 years, teaching pottery at evening classes, at local schools as a visiting artist, and for Artlink at Whitchurch Hospital and with adults with learning difficulties.

Other Benchart Projects

2005 ‘All the King’s Men’ commission for Benchart for one of six sculptures in Harlescott  Grange, Shrewsbury.
2006 Shropshire Wildlife Trust commission for Benchart for garden sculpture at M54 services, Telford.

Exhibitions

Since the early 1980s I have made my living running a successful studio pottery business, selling throughout the UK and occasionally in Europe.

Barbican exhibition with South Wales Potters;

Chelsea Flower Show 2000, and RHS shows at Hampton Court Palace and Tatton Park;
Potfest, in Perth, Penrith and Frome;
Potters, Bristol, run by South Wales and West Country Collective, of which I was a member until recently.
